All Sorted Out

First, here are alphabetized links to the most popular CABINET CARD GALLERY featuring short biographies of the known photographers of the 19th century.

Learning WHEN a photographer was WHERE should help in dating an old photograph.

Most often a found photograph is of unknown people by an unknown photographer. Occasionally the names of the people in a photograph are written on it later. But, very seldom do we ever learn the name of the photographer.

In the case of the Cabinet Card and the Carte de Viste (CDV) the photographer's name or studio name is often included as part of the mounting. It is sometimes at

the narrow end of the mounting board on the front and sometimes it is given in an elaborate fashion on the reverse of the card.

These pages of the LOST GALLERY will present all of the CABINET CARDS in the collection where the photographer is known.

The name of the photographer will be

repeated in the text so that it can be included in internet searches by Google and Bing and the rest.

As more information about the photographer emerges it will be added here.

This is a project in progress. If you don't find something here on a photographer you are researching, check back again.

Next, here are some of the most popular categories of the abandoned and rescued photographs in
LOST GALLERY.

Since this page was first published, some links have changed. LOST GALLERY is working to fix them as they are found.

Lost and Found? No.
To the original owners, these bits of time are still lost. Here are thousands of memories preserved by our only time machine, the camera. They are "found" only in the sense that they are no longer abandoned. They have been preserved.
Maybe someday, on these pages, someone will see themselves or someone close to them and know the story.
What stories do you see?

  1. Hi-Hello-Howrya? Thanks so much for the comment on my Vid/Collage! So nice to know that someone actually saw her (Donny) and appreciated her besides me and Roz...You've inspired me to be posting my more light-hearted Bettie Page (Xmas?) Video...You may find it amusing. It was sooo odd...because I had been obsessing about her all week (hmmmm) and I did the Vid...right after I posted it, I instantly got a comment "I miss her already": and I realized she had died while I was making the video. And, love your found photos and...Thanks again!
