Sepia Saturday - The Gang of Seven

This week's Sepia Saturday suggestion:

Well I had to think about this one.

Is that guy on the right end wearing jodhpurs? I could go with that. I have lots of pictures of people in jodhpurs. But, I am not sure those are jodhpurs that fella is wearing. They might be gauchos or hiking pants or some other fashion garment beyond my scope..

Well, how about old photographs of people standing around in the street? I have a few of those. But, frankly, they're not very interesting.

Okay, how about this: I have a few rather interesting photographs of seven people; Just seven people posing for the snap.

A Gang of Seven.

No not that money grubbing bunch of politicians a couple decades ago, just seven nice people.

Three guys, Four women

Okay, for example this snap has seven people in it. This one even has the same mix; Four women and three men.

Here's another: three guys, four gals.
Seven on the beach
And another!

Okay here's the gang all out on "Strawberrie Peek" for a day of posing!

Family at Strawberry Peak
Seven in this picture

Hm. Come to think of it, it appears to be three guys and four girls again...

Group on stairs and car
Three guys, four dolls...

What's going on here?
Four girls, three guys... are we sensing a pattern here?

Did ya count them? Three guys, four girls.

Well, aside from the family groups, when you think about it, it's not so unusual. When there are four couples out for a day in the sun, one of them has to run the camera...

The rest of the examples are just co-incidence.

So let's look at some other groups of seven.

Group on the steps.
Five women
That guy's not paying attention.

The Jodhpur Gang
And this seven are all wearing jodhpurs!
(Yes, I know, This one was on the "Camera" page too.)

Seven in the water
This one doesn't really count. There are three more people in the background...
Biplane and seven people
As much as 17.5 percent of women under 40 do not care much about biplanes.

Six women waiting.
Waiting room?
Seven maids in a row
The girls in a row

Pretty Maids all in a row.

Seven on a fender

Actually, this one is three guys and four gals again. Take a look at it in a LARGER SIZE.

If looks could kill ...

Ooo. If looks could kill...

Yes, look again. There are seven in the picture.

Saved my favorite for the last again.

Untitled
The boys didn’t quite grasp the concept of having their photograph taken. Besides, Aunt Marge had tripped and rolled down the hill. Now they knew the answer. It was neither bloomers nor pantaloons. It was plus-fours!

  1. Was the fourth guy always operating the camera?

  2. I did take a look in larger size and there is definitely also a small teddy bear, so that's 4 guys and 4 girls...it does not count.

  3. Fun bunch of "sevens." I thought the guy on the right was wearing knickers.

  4. I keep forgetting to make categories like this. I'm sure I've got some.

I don't know which is my fav, though I love the look on that girls face. I bought a shot yesterday that has a similar look, except mine almost looks a little crazy.

I do like the silliness of the four girls, three guys, and a bunch of waving arms.

  5. Thanks Mike Burnett. Yes it looks like it to me. Well maybe they taught the dog to run the camera.

Thanks Nigel Aspdin. You’re right! Good spotting! I’ll have to disqualify that one!

Thanks Postcardy. Knickers! That’s it! Good thing I didn’t go with jodhpurs.

Thanks Tattered and Lost. I couldn’t do it without Flickr’s tag system. In the early days of photography I don’t think people thought about how permanent their image was going to be. That girl’s glare was probably just a momentary grimace. Not it is forever. And yes, I was so happy to find that one where with everyone slapping around. I think a bug must have flown into the company or something.

  6. What a grand collection of photographs, with so many of the people having fun. I loved, though the one of the father and children in their Sunday best, , all looking very serious.

  7. Thanks ScotSue. Yes, the cabinet card of the man and his children is a good one. They seem to be well cared for. Those old photographs with one parent missing always worry me though.

  8. Wonderful take on the theme with your lucky sevens. I have to say the 'hopeful' cosying up to the judges and wishing for world peace really made me smile.

  9. Thanks Little Nell. Sometimes an abandoned photograph will just suggest a caption when one first looks at it. Most of the time it turns out comical.

  10. What an ingenious way to restrict the number of photos that qualify for this week's sepian theme. My favourite is the three guys and four dolls on a staircase - surely they weren't all going to try and fit in that car?

  11. Thanks Brett Payne. It is odd too that most of them worked out to be four girls and three guys. I wonder about all seven fitting in that car too. Maybe that building is the clown school.

  12. I absolutely loved your groups of seven and what a compilation it was! The "waiting room" totally cracked me up!

  13. Thanks Teresa. Sometimes these old abandoned photographs just suggest their own caption.
