Sepia Saturday - Unknown Family Trio

Unknown Family Groups
A Sepia Saturday suggestion

There are lots of family portraits in the LOST GALLERY. Just for this page, let's look at professional portraits of just three people: TRIOS

I have an idea you'll find that interesting.

The Madams Family

And again leaving my favorite to the last, I have been calling this one the "MADams Family". This trio just looks very unhappy about something. They seem to fit right into the current zombie craze.

Or maybe you'd prefer just a list of all (well, most) of the categories and subjects and album pages in LOST GALLERY! Well, here it is!

  1. Wonderful collection of unidentified ancestors, at least someone's ancestors. Why, oh why couldn't people write names on the back? Of course, I'm just as guilty of the same thing today!

  2. Thank you Teresa Wilson Rogers. Yes indeed. So many times I have wished that there could be just a LITTLE bit more information on a photograph. But many of them just have no connection except what our imagination sees.

  3. That last photo is just plain scary!

  4. Great photos! I could spend a day looking through them. Trios do make a very pleasing grouping and in most of these shots, you can see the faces very clearly...not like the longer shot they used when there were more in the group.

  5. 2What a fine collection of unknowns. The huge ribbons in the hair of one of the three young girls grab your attention,

  6. There are some great photos there, each one almost worth a post in itself.

  7. These are all great! The mom with those twins that look just like her and the 3 worried kids on the bear are my favorites.

    Thanks for the awesome selection.

  8. An impressive array of threes, each one worthy of attention. Putting photos into good categories of type, year, genre, etc, must be like the way digital music is notated. I now have problems remembering which file I have stored where. I do not currently have a file labeled ZOMBIES.

  9. A nice collection, with some really outstanding and unusual photos.

  10. Thanks Mike Brubaker. I don’t have a file for Zombies either, but it’s a good idea. I do have a file called “What Is Going On Here?” where I place the scanned versions of photographs that ask that question. I use Flickr’s tag system to build categories. The actual photographs are in file folders by where and when I found them. I put all of the data, location and date, tags and any text involved in the EXIF file behind each scanned photograph.

Thanks Postcardy. I am glad you like them. These old abandoned photograph deserve to be seen and appreciated.

  11. Thanks Kathy M. I like the mom and the twins also. She looks like such a happy person!

  12. Oh my you totally aced this assignment in more than triple! threes for them all- so many to study, as they all seem to have their own little story.

  13. Thanks for your visit Karen S. This was an easy one for me as I already have a category called trios.

We who collect old, abandoned photographs know sadly, that we can't save them all. I tend to select those that speak to me, tell a story.

  14. I think you get the prize for the most unknowns .. this week, and possibly every week.

  15. Thanks for your visit, Brett Payne.

I have been rescuing abandoned photographs a looong time. The categorization into subjects started several years ago.

  16. What a great idea - to categorize your photos. If I didn't spend so much time on Sepia Saturday, I might try to do that too!

Great bunch of photos. I particularly like the first one, top right. That poor girl on the right is very, very sad. I hope she grew into her looks.

  17. Great collection. We could weave wonderful stories around some of these faces

  18. Thanks barbara and nancy I don’t think that girl had her heart in having a picture taken in her housecoat (bathrobe). Don’t you just wonder what was the reason behind that photograph? I let Flickr do all my cataloging with their tag system.

Thanks Mike Burnett. I see the stories too. Sometimes I write up something. Most of the speak to me when I pick them up the first time.

  19. The first one got my attention - wondering why it was taken in those clothes.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Thanks Kathy Morales. Yes, that is one of the first things I think about an abandoned photograph. What was the reason for the photograph. It's hard to think of one that explains the bath robes.

  21. An amazing collection of photographs. I liked them all but the one that caught my attention was the little boy in the second one, wearing that huge fancy bow tie - he does not look very happy.

  22. I so many of them the "eyes" have it. New category. Crazy eye pictures!

I do love the last one of the surly folks. Oh to have heard the conversation before and after this shot was taken.

  23. Thanks ScotSue. Yes, he looks a bit uncomfortable. So often, in an old family portrait, you can tell that the child has been instructed to “Hold Still” and probably threatened with dire punishment if the picture is ruined with the fidgeting. I’d just be unhappy from having to wear those clothes, especially the tie.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thanks Tattered and Lost. You are right. The eyes do tell a story. So often in old studio portraits the pose is stiff and staring. With the very slow shutter needed to get a proper exposure back then, the photographer had to admonish the subjects to avoid blinking the eyes and or moving the mouth. The subject would usually react with an unnaturally clenched jaw and a wide-eyed stare.

Yes! Crazy Eyes! I’ll have to look into that one. I think I have a few.
