Strawberrie Peak - July 20, 1926

Gretta and Etta and Maude and Dodd
And the rest of the family with Dottie and Todd

Were weary from working the rest of the week
Set out for an outing at Strawberrie Peak.

Some of them went ‘cause they wanted to go
Some of them not so eagerly so.

So some of them went and some of them stayed
Some of them worked and some of them played.

Now here is a puzzle, an answer to seek:
How many folks went to Strawberrie Peak?

Sis wore her dress and Dad wore his hat.
But what else do you see? There is more than that.

THE KIDS Lesson one. It is always a mystery to us how a photograph of any of these precious children could end up lost or abandoned. Here are a few. You will probably say "Ooh..." at least once.

Let's All Go To The Movies - The Thing

Moments into this tense scene, James Arness, dressed as a giant carrot, bursts through a door at the end of the hall.

The "alien" make-up was so hokey, the director cut out all close-up shots of Arness resulting in an even more mysterious and certainly scarier character.

The movie, one of the most frightening of the '50's BEM (Bug Eyed Monster) era was remade in 1982 with color and special effects and closer to "a" list actors (Kurt Russell). The result wasn't nearly as scary

Let's All Go To The Movies - Rocketship XM

Rocketship XM
Starring Lloyd Bridges, Osa Massen, John Emery, Noah Berry Jr.

In his acceptance speech at the 2010 Oscar Awards Ceremony, you heard Jeff Bridges, this year's Oscar Winner for Best Actor, credit his father for his acting career. Well here he is folks: Coming up through the rocketship passageway: Lloyd Bridges.

In the second movie still, he is sitting third from left.

These are old lobby cards I purchased around 1955.

Let's All Go To The Movies - Rocketman

Rocketman

This is Rocketman. Rocketman was the hero of a 1949 twelve episode Movie Serial. It was one of the last movie serials produced by the Hollywood’s Republic Studios and perhaps even contributed to the decline of that medium of the Silver Screen. Loosely scripted and assembled, the serial followed a standard formula plot; powerful, evil (and ugly) monster wants to take over the world and is foiled by a good guy in a white hat. It usually took 12 to 15 episodes to do it, with a “cliff-hanger” in the final footage of each chapter. This is an old promotional photo or “lobby card” I found somewhere around the Strand Theater in Salina, Kansas, where I faithfully attended the showing of each chapter on consecutive Saturday afternoons. Admission was fifteen cents, a package of Milk Duds was a nickel and the serial was accompanied by a feature film usually staring Abbott and Costello or the Bowery Boys, six or seven cartoon shorts and the weekly issue of Movietone News.
