Sepia Saturday - The Garden

This week the Sepia Saturday suggestion is a photograph of a couple people dressed in their best Sunday-go-to-Meetin' clothes while posing as gardeners.

The woman carefully operates a watering can while the man holds the rake for her. (He's so helpful.)

Now, posing for a picture whilst holding a gardening tool is not unknown but...

Just a wheel barrow in the garden

...it is often not a serious exercise.

However, LOST GALLERY finds serious gardening is often done without tools. There seems to be an abundance of snapshots of people posing IN the garden without doing much of anything, especially work. Here are a few blossoms...

But there is something else. Is this a face you have seen before? Here is an interesting comparison. What do you think?

Now shovel off to the Sepia Saturday home page and see who else is goofing off in the garden.

THE KIDS Lesson one. It is always a mystery how a photograph of any of these precious children could end up lost or abandoned. Here are a few. You will probably say "Ooh..." at least once.

  1. I had an entertaining stroll in the garden... And I am glad to have met Mr. Gnome!

    1. Thanks Susanna Rosalie. What's a garden without a Gnome? I wonder if the person taking that picture intended to include the little statue.

  2. Great collection photos of people of all ages posing in gardens, as well as someone actually working in one

  3. As always, a most enjoyable post - this tour through myriad gardens with such a variety. Chuckled at the first few - humor has a place almost anywhere, any time! As for the comparison pix - those smiles are about as identical as you can get. The younger could be from a later generation. Who knows?

    1. Thanks La Nightingail. Humor certainly does belong almost anywhere. Do you think that could be an ancestor of Charlize?

    2. They do look an awful lot alike. I would think she could at least believably pretend it was a relative.

  4. My favorites are the photos of people with garden tools.

    1. Thanks Postcardy. I found relatively few actually working in a garden. Actually there were quite a few of people just standing with trees and flowers.

  5. Only one "kanoodling in the garden" photo, you're slacking anyjazz.

    1. Thanks Brett Payne. Yes, I have only one other like that that I can think of. Maybe next time for it.

    1. Thanks Alex Daw. The gnome photograph is hard to resist. The photograph next to it was apparently from the same camera but maybe a year later.

  7. Pull up your pants young man, the fad hasn't arrived yet for you! Hehehehehe! Great photos all throughout, and once again most of them can tell a story without words!

    1. Thanks Karen. You're right! Not a fashion back at that time but it's just as silly then as it is now. There's always a story.

  8. I always enjoys strolling through your galleries and there’s at least one each week to make me smile, what more could I want? I love the babies with the gnome.

    1. Thanks Little Nell. Glad you enjoy the tour. The garden gnome portrait is probably my favorite too.

  9. A time traveling Charlene! I love it.

And who would be so mean as to put a bonnet like that on a baby on a blanket. Poor kids would go right over should a strong wind blow through. Actually, I'd love to see that. Boom goes the baby. Or perhaps they'd take flight.

A grand collection. I have nothing to compare to these humorous ones.

    1. Thanks Tattered and Lost. I was a little surprised about the Theron look alike. The old photograph is certainly from at least 60 years ago. Then I found a modern photograph of the star in exactly the same pose, smile and all. Morphing the two was a fun project.

I see a series now! The Flying Babies! Plots pending. If the Flying Nun worked, why not babies?

      Thanks for the visit.
