Very often, notations on the reverse of these found photographs are obscure or too brief or illegible. Most often there is nothing at all.
But now and then there is a message from the past that sparkles.
Back in March of 2009 LOST GALLERY had a full page of photographs and their very interesting reverse sides. There have been many new additions to the collection since then.
Here is a new group of those photographs with mysterious, funny and sometimes puzzling reverse sides; tiny bits of history, reaching out to us over decades and sometimes a century.
This is a snapshot I took of New Barn and the
Carters cottage house, this is where my father kept
his horses and the carters worked for father. I
played around here as a boy. It is called
New Barn but as a matter of fact-it-is
really old. School Farm lane where I was
born was built in 1705 A. D. nearly
Grandpa
Butler's Barn where I stopped.
This cottage has all modern improvements
except gas, electric light & telephone,
these can be had, telephone has reached
Lockerley, also the electric towers and wires
So soon Lockerly as I & my fathers knew
it will be but a memory, however thats
all the least, new times, new things.
John Butler 1293 A. D. never had a house as
good as this but this is named after him-
NRA stamp on reverse. This must be from 1935 or before. The National Recovery Administration was declared unconstitutional in 1935.

THE KIDS
It is always a mystery how a photograph of any of these precious children could end up lost or abandoned.
Here are a few.
You will probably say "Ooh..." at least once.
Dee and the Business School
The beautiful Dee. A curious story, What do you see?
WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?
"What are they doing?"
I see. It's "this Joe" which will forever leave us wondering about "that Joe."
ReplyDeleteYes! And which Joe is this? Are they interchangeable? Will we ever know for sure?
ReplyDeleteIt always surprises me how many grammatical and spelling errors turn up on the backs of photographs.
