Sepia Saturday - Signs

For this Sepia Saturday suggestion we have a photograph of some old buildings featuring several signs.

So today for Sepia Saturday, lets look at some photographs from around the gallery that feature a sign somewhere in the picture.

Amelia knew there would be talk. But she loved the sign anyway.

People use signs to establish where they were when the picture was snapped.

US State Border signs and monuments are a prime location for a tourist snap just to say: We were here!

Especially Texas, it seems.

At first glance these seem like all the same sign. They are not. They are apparently from different highways leading into Texas.

Colorado and Pike's Peak is another popular destination.

probably never really caught on.

And last, here is a tattered photograph found in an "antique" mall in Texas. The sign in the photograph led me on a fascinating trail of details and discovery. Here is a bit of the story of the fire at the Crazy Drug Company.

The Home Made Deckled Edge.

Shortly after the camera became a common household item, and the photo-finishing shops began their brisk business, the photography companies began manufacturing darkroom supplies. One item that became common place was the deckled-edge photograph paper.

The deckled-edge snapshot became so popular that people began to "retro-fit" some older snapshots and even studio prints. They used pinking shears. I bet everyone that did this thought they were the only one to think of the idea.
