These three photographs were found in an "antique" store in East Texas.
They are all what is referred to as "Real Photo Post Cards."
They are different in every other way except content. I have learned that they are of people in Welsh Traditional Clothing. Here they are, each with the reverse side.
On reverse:
Albert Hall Theatricals (upside down)
Mrs Holley
2 Lock Street
Abercynon

Perhaps more examples of this tradition will be found. LOST GALLERY will add them here on this page.

THE KIDS It is always a mystery how a photograph of any of these precious children could end up lost or abandoned. Here are a few. You will probably say "Ooh..." at least once.
Dee and the Business School The beautiful Dee. A curious story; What do you see?
WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? "What are they doing?"
What a wonderful find these are! Not your usual country costume posed cards. These are charming.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tattered and Lost. I had never seen any of this tradition so it was quite a revelation when I discovered what they were. I was glad I picked up all three. They don't seem to be connected except for the subject matter.
DeleteThese are quite a treasure of a special genre, and now you have a new category! I would have mistaken them for oddly dressed pilgrims.
ReplyDeleteDo we know the name of the hat? It probably has 16 letters, of which 8 are Y and G.
Thanks Mike Brubaker. Right! I certainly will be watching for more of these. It looked much like Pilgrim dress to me too. I guessed them at first to be kids dressed for a school play about the Pilgrims. And you've given me an idea. I think I'll see if I can find the names of some of the garments.
