Very often, notations on the reverse of these found photographs are obscure or too brief or illegible. Most often there is nothing at all.
But now and then there is a message from the past that sparkles.
Back in March of 2009 LOST GALLERY had a full page of photographs and their very interesting reverse sides. There have been many new additions to the collection since then.
Here is a new group of those photographs with mysterious, funny and sometimes puzzling reverse sides; tiny bits of history, reaching out to us over the decades, sometimes a century.

Mr. J.B. Hancock
A little research developed this:
John B. Hancock (5 Aug 1875 - 16 May 1950) was married on 5 Dec 1906 to Mary Matilda Schottel (28 Apr 1886 - 11 Mar 1959). They actually lived in Missouri. The Emporia State Bank of Kansas was actually about 135 miles away.
John’s father, Isaac Adams Hancock moved to Salt Lake Valley in 1848 and had two spouses, apparently at the same time. John was born in Missouri to Lizzie Hancock in August of 1875. Two half siblings were born in Payson, Utah to Margaret Melvina Bingham in 1873 and 1877.
Of course unless there turns out to be TWO Isaac Adams Hancocks. That’s always a possibility.
