Enhancement vs Restoration

Some days things just go right
As you probably know I do very little restoration on found photographs. I think the wrinkles and tears and discoloration are part of their journey to our time. Occasionally though, if it will bring out details that we would miss otherwise, a little enhancement is a good thing.
There is a smile we would have missed.

    I agree. Just because time has taken away the image it doesn't mean it didn't exist. I try to maintain the aged color, scratches, bends and folds, but if the image has faded what's the point of not bringing it back? I don't have time for that sort of purist. The original is left as is, but in order to share there's no point in not slightly pumping up the volume.

    I certainly agree. The scars and tears it has earned along the way tells a story about the snap. Enhancing it a bit to show the details obscured by the weakness of the old photography process adds to that story. it is the difference between enhancing and restoring.
