For this Sepia Saturday suggestion we have a photograph of some old buildings featuring several signs.
So today for Sepia Saturday, lets look at some photographs from around the gallery that feature a sign somewhere in the picture.
And last, here is a tattered photograph found in an "antique" mall in Texas. The sign in the photograph led me on a fascinating trail of details and discovery. Here is a bit of the story of the fire at the Crazy Drug Company.
So now, to get back to the Sepia Saturday home page you turn around here and follow the signs and see where they take you. Just follow the signs. You can't miss it.

THE KIDS It is always a mystery how a photograph of any of these precious children could end up lost or abandoned. Here are a few. You will probably say "Ooh..." at least once.
Dee and the Business School The beautiful Dee. A curious story; What do you see?
WHAT'S GOING ON HERE? "What are they doing?"
I especially love all the Texas signs although I've never been there -- I guess the natural "seat" provided by the shape of the state makes them so interesting. By contrast, the Colorado sign doesn't seem to promise much.
ReplyDeleteThanks Wendy. Yes, those Texans do go out of their way to let you know you are in Texas. Shape does invite a photo-op for people who are traveling by car. Most state signs are more like the Colorado ones shown here.
DeleteYour post is under a sign of diversion!
ReplyDeleteEnyoyed looking at the details of these different occasions, places, times and people.
Thanks Susanna Rosalie. Glad you enjoyed the page.
DeleteOh my goodness, what a fun collection of photos. They are all just enjoyable to view.
ReplyDeleteThanks Karen S. I am glad you liked it. I enjoyed putting the page together.
DeleteI always enjoy your posts. One day I would like to do a similar thing with "lost" Australian photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. I am looking forward to that!
DeleteThe English translation in the final photo seems a bit prudish. What a great collection.
ReplyDeleteThanks genepenn. I have never been able to figure out what country the sign might have been in. That might account for the odd translation.
DeleteLove them all. A great collection of photos. I like to take photos of state signs as I travel & cross borders. Guess I am not alone.
ReplyDeleteThanks Colleen G. Brown Pasqulale. It seems to be a popular tradition.
DeleteThe child in the Furnished Room to Let photo looks so happy at the thought of someone coming to stay :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Alex Daw. Yes, I bet that big toothy smile took him a long ways in life. That's a happy kid.
DeleteA great collection. I've certainly posed for and taken lots of similar photos. Have you collected a full set of "We-wuz-here!" 50 state signs yet?
ReplyDeleteThanks Mike Brubaker. I have too. Collecting one from each of the 50 states is a great idea. It might take a while however as my grazing range isn't that big anymore.
DeleteYou always have such fun collections of photographs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Nancy. I am glad you enjoy them.
DeleteHmmm. I wonder if Pancake Flour was a mix? Nice to see all the happy faces, probably on
ReplyDeletevacations.
Thanks Helen Bauch McHargue. I think it was, but it is no longer available, at least under that name. They were apparently in business in the mid '20's. Yes, some of the happiest faces can be found in vacation snapshots and slides.
DeleteThose signs certainly came in handy for labelling the location; they were so big, no-one could argue!
ReplyDeleteThanks Little Nell. Most of them were pretty big all right. And of course in Texas, everything just seems bigger.
DeleteI collect postcards of signs. I also like signs like the Lands End sign that says POSTCARDS.
ReplyDeleteThanks Postcardy. What a category! Postcards of signs! Or Signs about postcards! Someone told me that that building is still standing but has been built onto. The negative it came from was shot in the winter of 1944.
