Sepia Saturday - Lets Put On A SHOW!

The Sepia Saturday suggestion for this week is a row of women costumed alike and posed in what seems to be a dance routine.

That's a popular reason for getting out the old box camera. In everyone's mind it's a photograph of the beginning. "She's a big star on Broadway now, but here's a snap of her when she was just a teen."

Yes, some of these appeared before on the Sepia Saturday page about Costumes back in July of 2013.

So for Sepia Saturday this week let's go back and look at some of those budding starlets. Let's turn back the pages of the old family album and find the costumes and the dance shoes, the living room rehearsal snap or the long shot from the tenth row of the high school auditorium. Whatever the production, here are some of the results when someone said, "Let's put on a show!"

Okay, one last picture for the page. This photograph is not in LOST GALLERY. That is because it is not lost. It is one of a very few photographs that remain from my own family album.

At five I was taking tap lessons and was in a USO dance review at a local US air force base. This is a photograph after the show, I think. One of us was voted the pinup of the 44th division. I'll let you guess which one is me.

I carry on and on about it HERE.

So pull on your tap shoes and shuffle-toe-hop-step on back to the Sepia Saturday to see what other costumed dance routines turn up in the family albums

THE KIDS Lesson one. It is always a mystery how a photograph of any of these precious children could end up lost or abandoned. Here are a few. You will probably say "Ooh..." at least once.

    1. Thanks Tattered and Lost. Indeed there is. I am so left footed today, I can hardly believe I took dance lessons.

  2. I like the Dolly Dances image best.

  3. Dozens of showgirls of every kind and only one showguy? Does this mean the Lost Gallery doesn't have a file drawer of crossing dressing Norwegian ballet dancers? I'm shocked!

    1. Thanks Mike Brubaker. You're right! LOST GALLERY seems to have only a few cross-dressing photographs and only two of those are of men dressed as women. There are also a few too contemporary to use. LOST GALLERY avoids displaying any abandoned photographs from later than 1960. So the "show" theme was followed instead.

  4. Enough photographs to fill a gallery. I, for one, am glad you found them

    1. Thanks Alan Burnett. There were quite a number to choose from to fit the theme of this page. Costumed people are a common reason for the photo session.

  5. Aren't you both cute!

I always wanted to have dance lessons. Mum thought it might help my (poor) co-ordination but we couldn't afford it :(

Now I can afford it and my husband is not interested!

    1. Thanks Sharon. I was dragged into some tango lessons once. Never again. Talk about lack of co-ordination!

  6. Dance costumes are one part tacky and one part eye candy. A live show can be a colorful and exciting spectacle as these photos prove.

    1. Thanks Wendy. I think you are exactly right. Maybe even TWO parts tacky.

  7. I clicked your link and read your journal page. What an interesting story. I’m sorry you lost her so young; she was certainy a pretty little thing. Sad too for her mother (amazing lady).

    1. Thanks Little Nell. I was thankful for the nudge to look up the photographs. I also looked up the duplex (semi-detached) house where our two families lived. It's still there.

  8. Great collection. Nobody commented about the topless costume or lack of costume. I'm positive that's no cross dresser!

    1. Thanks Helen Bauch McHargue. Yes, I'm pretty sure she isn't too. She is part of a group I found at a flea market in Kansas. I have since found that they were used in a weekly publication called "Sho Biz" in Wichita, Kansas, advertising bars and clubs and restaurants in that town. There is a page of them in LOST GALLERY. I will add a link to it under her picture.
