Let's All Go To The Movies - Ben Turpin

After this one was posted on Flickr for a few days, I got this fine and informative comment from an expert in the subject of Ben Turpin. wrigglyeyes says: Great photo and a great find! Think it was Moos that tipped me off. If you've been to my flickr site you know I love Ben Turpin and might be happy to know I'm writing a book about him after 40 years of research and collecting. I'm pretty sure this scene is from the January 12th, 1919 Sennett comedy short for Paramount, "Cupid's Day Off." Heinie Conklin stands foreground far left, Tom Kennedy roles his sleeves far right. The girl dancing with Ben escapes me, but she's not Prevost, Haver, Hammond or Alice Lake. (Harriet Hammond is there dancing with Larry McGrath in her black & white vertical striped dress). Most of the other characters are just extras, tho I also recognize Pat Kelly and Garry O'Dell among them. Here's hoping you find more Turpin photos and was great reading everyones responses! SteveR

Now and then I come across movie stills. Those are the photographs that the theater operators used to get as promotional material for movies that they were running. They were used in the lobby and box office area of the theater as teasers for ticket buyers. Now, alas, they are abandoned. Here are six stills from an unknown musical. Do you recognize anyone?

Children love toys that move, especially ones that move them along too. Tricycles, wagons, pedal cars and bicycles. Our mobile society.
	I recently watched television show about junk dealers. One collector, while pulling an old bicycle frame from under a bush, remarked how independent he felt when, as a child, he got his first bicycle.
	I remember an elderly neighbor of mine who hated to give up her driver’s license because it felt like a loss of independence. She was 84 and hadn’t driven in years, but it was the symbolism that bothered her.

Don't tell me you ran out of gas again.	This may be the oldest version of a pedal car in the whole collectionl.
