Let's All Go To The Movies - This Time For Keeps

Occasionally the search for old photographs finds your LOST GALLERY curator in the darkest corner of a junk shop, elbow deep in a hat-box of ephemera. It's rare, but occasionally we see a familiar face ...

Yes, you guessed it, it's Esther Williams, the Million Dollar Mermaid.

Here she is in the 1947 movie "This Time for Keeps" with Johnny Johnston, a nightclub singer and leading man type who appeared in about 18 movies. This movie also featured Jimmy Durante, Lauritz Melchior and Xavier Cugat and his orchestra.

Esther Williams starred in many movies as a ballet swimmer. The exercise must have been beneficial to her health as she lived 92 years. We lost Esther Williams in June of 2006.

THE KIDS Lesson one. It is always a mystery how a photograph of any of these precious children could end up lost or abandoned. Here are a few. You will probably say "Ooh..." at least once.

  1. I think I saw every movie Esther Williams was in. I admired her grace, and wished for it myself, never achieved it.
