Sepia Saturday - Open Season!

Today the Sepia Saturday Suggestion is
no suggestion at all!

As you might have noticed,
LOST GALLERY
has many exhibits in many categories. There's a collection of photographs of just children; there's a group of photographs with three people. There are pages for uniforms, children's toys, fur coats, cabinet cards and aircraft. There are many others. This week there will be a full (well ... almost)
list at the bottom of the page.

So today for Sepia Saturday, lets wander aimlessly about and look at samples from some of the categories in
LOST GALLERY.

Watermelon pair
Watermelon time
three women and watermelon

Yes, there's a category just for
People Eating Watermelon.

Girl

There is a page of people sitting or standing on a
Running Board.
Did you ever see one?

Woman on Running Board

What are you doing, Clyde? What are you doing,Clyde?
Chap at Jason Lee

There is a collection of people turning away from the camera.
It's called Advance to the Rear!

Don't take my picture!
Don't take my picture!

Lady

Did you ever notice that in older portraits sometimes there are some really useless and
Funny Looking Props?

Man
Woman with post
cabinet card - standing portrait

1940 Dodge Fourdoor sedan

While it is not unheard of to find a photograph of a landscape or a building or a bridge with no one in it, it is a bit uncommon. And for some reason, it is really rare to find a photograph of
Just the Car.
You mostly see a family member posed in front of it.

1931 Chevrolet

It finally occurred to me some time ago that this pose is a category! I have found some like this and seen several in other collections. But the problem is: what to call it. What do you call a pose like this? I think it is supposed to be some sort of glamour pose but it is a bit silly too.

For now it is called, "Belly Down, Heads up" or maybe
"The Elbow Pose"
but I am open for suggestion.

The elbow/belly pose.
Part of a series
The elbow pose

And now one of my favorite categories,
The Photo-booth Portrait.

Brace yourself, there are ten installments so far in the Series.

Photobooth Girl
Estelle always wore tap shoes. You never know when they will come in handy.
Photobooth Uniformed Woman
Kaitlin was never confused except on Wednesdays after 4.
And of course, today.

Photobooth
Luther wanted to be a detective but no one would write about him.
Photobooth girl
Stephanie found the only drawback in wearing two left shoes was that she tended to walk in circles.

Photobooth Woman
Fillis had no sense of humor so she smiled all the time just in case.

Delahey Forge used to sell wallpaper deliberately to people. Then he repented and just wandered about Colorado until he was 29.
Photobooth baby in cap
Wow! Are those MY feet?
Photobooth man with tie
Alton had an unnatural fear of uncaged lions.
Photobooth two men
"Wait a minute," Bob thought, "I don't have a brother."

Girl in a garden
There's a page for BIG HATS
Two in jodhpurs
And where would we be today without
Jodhpurs?

Tinted
There is also a page for the
"Hand" Tinted Photographs.

And then there are the regular occasional sporadic pages such as:
Enhancement - Looking for Lost Details
Out of the Darkness - Rescuing Old Tintypes
Turn it Over! There's Something on the Back!
Feature Page - One Photograph Speaks.
and
The Album Page - photographs that seem related.

Okay, enough of that. Now, wander aimlessly, back to the
Sepia Saturday home page and see what "Open Theme" really means.

Or maybe you'd prefer just a list of all (well, most) of the categories and subjects and album pages
in LOST GALLERY! Well, here it is!

  2. I like the inclusion of the index. It might be worth including on future posts or sidebar for anyone who feels like looking beyond the current topic.

    1. Thanks Postcardy. I should use that trailer more often. It took days to develop all the cross-references and construct all of those links.

  3. You do have the most deliciously wicked sense of humor. Loved the photo booth pix and your comments especially, but the rest was fun, as usual. Your posts are always a delight.

    1. Thanks La Nightingale. Producing a chuckle is my finest reward. The photographs do all the work though; I just write down what they say.

    2. But you need good interpretation skills for that and I would certainly not see so much so I enjoy what you have to say, and the photos too of course

  6. This was a terrific idea to display examples of all your many categories. I wish I had thought of it. Otherwise I might have missed "Jodhpurs"!
Maybe I'll borrow your index concept for another no theme Sepia Saturday.

    1. Thanks Mike Brubaker. The "No Theme" Saturday was an opportunity to flash some of my favorites from the collection. The jodhpurs pages are some of the most often visited. I have no idea why.

    1. Thanks boundforoz. I noticed lots of common poses and subjects in collections of photographs, so I started grouping them together. For some reason the jodhpurs pages are really popular.

    1. Thanks Jo Featherston. The cheesecake category is a popular one. It is surprising how popular that pose is among collections of old photographs.
